Mods & Plugins
Install, search, and manage mods, plugins, and datapacks from Modrinth.
Cliff integrates directly with Modrinth, letting you search, install, and manage mods and plugins without leaving the dashboard.
Prerequisites
- Mods require a modded server type (Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge)
- Plugins require a plugin-capable server type (Paper, Purpur, or Folia)
- Vanilla servers support datapacks only
If you try to access the Mods panel on an incompatible server type, Cliff will show a hint explaining what's needed.
Note
Modrinth works without any API key. CurseForge integration is planned for a future update.
Installing mods & plugins
The Discover tab is where you search for new mods and plugins to install.
Searching
- Enter your search query in the search bar
- Filter by side: Server, Client, or Both
- Results show project name, description, download count, and author
Installing
- Click on a search result to see project details
- Select the version compatible with your Minecraft version and loader
- Click Install
Cliff automatically downloads the mod file and places it in the correct directory (mods/ for mods, plugins/ for plugins).
Uploading manually
If you have a mod or plugin file (.jar) downloaded separately:
- Switch to the Upload tab in the discover panel
- Drag and drop the
.jarfile, or browse to select it - Cliff uploads it to the correct directory
Managing installed mods
The Installed tab shows everything currently in your server's mods or plugins directory.
Actions
- Enable / Disable — Toggle a mod on or off without deleting it
- Delete — Remove a mod permanently
- Bulk actions — Select multiple mods to enable, disable, or delete in one action
- View details — See mod metadata, version, and dependencies
Dependency warnings
Cliff checks mod metadata for dependency information. If a mod requires another mod that isn't installed, you'll see a warning with a link to install the missing dependency.
Datapacks
For Vanilla and modded servers, the Mods panel also manages datapacks. Datapacks are searched and installed from Modrinth, and managed in the same way as mods.
Installing datapacks
- Switch the content filter to Datapacks in the Mods panel
- Select a target world
- Search and install datapacks from Modrinth
Managing datapacks
Datapacks can be enabled, disabled, and deleted just like mods. Datapacks are stored in <world>/datapacks/ and are loaded when the world is active.
