Public Access

Share your server with players outside your network using playit.gg tunnels.

By default, your Minecraft server is only accessible from your local network. The Public Access panel lets you set up a tunnel so anyone can connect from anywhere — no port forwarding required.

How it works

Cliff integrates with playit.gg, a tunneling service that creates a public URL pointing to your local server. When a player connects to the public address, the tunnel routes their traffic to your machine.

Setup

playit.gg is fully managed within Cliff.

Installation

  1. Go to the Public Access panel
  2. Click Install playit agent
  3. Cliff downloads and installs the playit.gg agent automatically

Claiming your account

  1. After installation, click Start agent
  2. Cliff shows a claim link — open it in your browser
  3. Create a free playit.gg account (or log in if you have one)
  4. Authorize the agent to your account

Creating a tunnel

  1. Once claimed, open the playit.gg tunnel setup page (Cliff provides a copyable link and an Open Playit Tunnel Setup button)
  2. Sign in to your playit.gg account
  3. Create a new Minecraft Java tunnel
  4. Set Local Host and Local Port to match your server (Cliff shows the exact target, e.g. localhost:25565)
  5. Start the tunnel on the playit.gg side

Getting your join address

Once the tunnel is running, return to the Public Access panel and Cliff will automatically detect the public address. If it doesn't appear right away, click Check Again. The detected address is shown on the panel and on the overview — share it with your players so they can connect from their Minecraft client.

Managing the agent

  • Start / Stop — Control whether the tunnel is active
  • Reset — Re-claim the agent with a different playit.gg account
  • Uninstall — Remove the playit.gg agent entirely

Note

The playit.gg agent runs as a separate process managed by Cliff. If Cliff is stopped, the tunnel also stops.

Troubleshooting

Tunnel not connecting

  • Make sure the playit.gg agent is running (check the status indicator)
  • Verify your server is running and listening on the correct port
  • Check that your firewall allows outbound connections on port 443 (for playit.gg)

Address not showing

  • Refresh the Public Access panel
  • Check the playit.gg dashboard to confirm the tunnel is active
  • Try stopping and restarting the agent
